A short day-trip from Milan was Bergamo, a little Italian city nestled in the heart of Lombardy. The sights are gathered in the central Piazza, with the town hall on one end and the cathedral on the other, overlooked by a dizzyingly-high bell tower that chimed to announce all the major events in Bergamo’s history. While small, Bergamo offered an enjoyable trip into the Lombardy that is often passed over by sightseers, with a church on every corner and family-owned pastry shops connecting the piazzas. The Alps would normally make for a beautiful backdrop to spring/summer pictures, but the soft snowfall blocking their views during my visit created its own touch.
