“Ich bin ein Berliner!”  Well, not quite, but I enjoyed the city enough to say so.  After many years of division and turmoil, Berlin has emerged as a beautiful and eclectic city; buildings carry the feeling of renewal and rebirth when so much of the city and its people have undergone tremendous political and cultural changes.  Memorials to the “old” Berlin(s) are everywhere, but modern Berlin is a fantastic sight.

I met my friend Lu there, who was doing a month-long anthropology research program in Zurich; we had studied abroad together in London, and we arranged this trip so that we could meet again in Europe.  It was a great to see old friends in a new city, especially for my last trip this year.
